Standard 8 Teachers know how to test for student progress. The teacher understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the pupil.
Rationale 1: Because I teach English/Language Arts, I have many opportunities to use different forms of assessment. Rubrics are a great way to show students where their strengths and weaknesses exist. Rubistar offers teachers the use of rubrics that are shared by other teachers and the opportunity to design new rubrics. This evidence was given out to students when the project was assigned so that they knew what was expected of them.
KSD: 8.K.2 The teacher knows how to select, construct, and use assessment strategies and instruments appropriate to the learning outcomes being evaluated and to other diagnostic purposes. Some projects work better with rubrics than others. Technology projects like a digital comic strip is a suitable project in which to use a rubric. Students can review the rubric before completed the assignment, and in doing so, they know what the expectations are to receive a good grade.

Rubistar has a variety of rubrics to choose from. This particular project is also assessed through teacher observation while the students are working on the project. The rubric is then revised for future use to accommodate any issues that may arise. This evidence shows only one form of assessment used in my classroom.
